JORDAN, MANDY & MIKAH

This is Jordan and Mandy's Christmas card picture.
What a cute family! To see more of what Jordan and Mandy are doing scroll down to the August 31 post.

JOSH and CARI

Josh and Cari live in San Antonio. They have had a busy year with their work, home remodeling, church callings and friends. Once when I called them they were babysitting for a large family so the parents could have some time together. They are such good and thoughtful people! They came out to Anna's wedding, and we are going to visit them for Christmas. We are so excited to spend some time together.

MIKAH

This is Mikah at 5 months old...isn't he adorable! (Another picture stolen from Jordan and Mandy's blog)

Alyssa, Joseph and Caroline

Alyssa just finished a great volleyball season. She had such a good time that instead of playing basketball, she's going to be playing on a club volleyball team. She is heard saying, "I love volleyball!" on a regular basis. She also loves her brother and sister as you can see from the pictures!
Joseph keeps busy with his college classes. He's a sophomore at Canyon View High School, but goes to SUU for half the day. He's doing well and loves (well likes) the challenge. Joseph loves being outside and exploring. It snowed about 4 inches last week and he rolled all the snow off the grass in the backyard, loaded it into a huge pile and then dug out a snow cave. Alyssa went in it with him and said it was pretty warm. Last winter he built an ingloo. He said he was going to keep doing things like this until he has a true Klondike experience. Dwight said he will take him to the mountains this winter and spend the night with him in a snow cave. Joseph can't wait.
Caroline just sang her first solo. She sang a song called The Light Within at her Young Women in Excellence program. She did a great job! She will be singing Mary Did You Know as a solo at her school choir concert in December. She loves singing as much as Alyssa loves volleyball!

Jacob's Engaged!

In July Jake asked Anna Edwards to marry him. He didn't just ask. First he led her all over Eastern North Carolina finding clues which eventually led her to the beach. His plan was very elaborate. He made a scrapbook of their dating years that had places to put the clues she found (or something like that...he told me about it when he was still on Cloud 9) When she got to the beach he had tiki torches set up where he asked her; and she said, "Yes"! I never knew what a romantic Jacob was. Anna is a very sweet and talented girl and they make a beautiful couple. They plan to get married on June 26, 2010 in North Carolina.

Anna & Robbie

On July 31 Anna married Robbie Bamgartner. It was a beautiful day. Anna was gorgeous, and Robbie was all smiles. Dwight "catered" the reception. He cooked a pig with all the trimmings (his famous baked beans, dutch-oven potatoes and coleslaw)...totally Southern...for about 200 people. We were all worn out when the day was finished but also had lots of fun.
Anna and Robbie live in Midway, Utah and work for Robert Redford. Anna's been riding horses for a living (tough work), and has only been thrown off a horse once! In the winter they work at the ski resort.
They got a new puppy whose picture I would add if they would send me one.

Jordan and Mandy and MY GRANDSON, MIKAH!

This is Mikah Elias Potter (born June 2, 2009) and his parents Jordan and Mandy. I can't tell you how excited we all are to have Mikah in our family. He's growing so fast. I wish we lived closer so I could hold him all the time! Jordan has been accepted to the ISYS (Information Systems) program at the Marriott School at BYU. He has a heavy load but is really enjoying it. Mandy is a stay-at-home-mom that takes great care of their sweet baby. She is also very good at finding great deals and saving money. She's inspired me! We've enjoyed going to BYU football games with them this year!

Athlete of the Week

In April Alyssa was named Southern Utah's Athlete of the Week for her performance as Canyon View High School's fastpitch softball pitcher. She had a great season. She, along with two other players from Southern Utah, were nominated for Player of the Year. A Senior from Cedar High was the winner; but Alyssa, as a sophomore, knows "it was an honor just being nominated!" During the summer Alyssa played on a softball travel team and competed in several tournaments, went to EFY, Girl's Camp and our family vacation to Arizona. A week ago Alyssa started her junior year where she is taking the biggest load of classes she has ever taken. This semester she is taking Seminary, Pro-Start Foods, History 1700 (SUU class), Publishing, Chemistry, PreCalculus, AP Geography and English. She is also playing on the Varsity Volleyball team.

Double Third!

Caroline and I just got back from our district's "Reflections" award program. Reflections is a PTA sponsored program where kids can enter their work in a variety of categories....art, photography, video, literature, etc. The theme this year was "WOW." Caroline entered a poem called "My World is Upside Down." She won third place at the school competition and third place at the district competition. I am posting a copy of her "Double Third" place poem, but you won't be able to read it. So I will re-type in below.

My World is Upside Down
By Caroline Potter

The sky is green the grass is blue.
You are famous and I am too.
Students teach and teachers learn.
It really gives me great concern.
Cows are "neighing" and horses say "moo."
Goblins are jolly and Santa says "boo."
Night is day and day is night.
It's really given me such a fright.
Candy is gross and spinach is yummy.
Really fast rides don't tickle your tummy.
A thief robbed the bank and then chased the cop.
I wish all this nonsense would come to a stop.
Kids asking for homework and teachers refusing.
And though I don't like it, it's all quite amusing.
I woke up this morning and the sky was blue.
It seemed so real. Could it be true?
And I wonder,
Did it happen to you,
Too?

New Furniture

Dwight surprised me with new family room furniture for Christmas. It's something we both picked out earlier, but decided we'd wait for a while. I love the red leather. It's thick and soft like a new purse....if you know me, you understand why I love this furniture. Now we need a new rug. That old gold and burgundy one doesn't really match the new look!
